About us

THE GYM IN THE WEST WHERE EVERYONE TRAINS

Greater Western MTA is a Muay Thai academy in Ravenhall, in the heart of Melbourne's western suburbs. We teach the art of eight limbs the way it's meant to be taught — authentic technique, honest hard work, and a training floor where everyone from five-year-olds to seasoned fighters gets better every session.

Walk in on a weeknight and you'll see it: kids drilling kicks at 5:30, their parents gloving up for the 6:30 class, first-timers learning their stance next to members who've been here from the start. That's not an accident — it's the whole idea. We're a family gym that takes Muay Thai seriously, not a fight gym that tolerates families.

We train hard and we keep it real — you'll sweat, you'll laugh, and you'll be looked after from your very first session. Stay humble. Never quit.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

RESPECT

It starts and ends with respect — for your trainers, your training partners, the art, and yourself. Egos get left at the door.

STRENGTH

Physical strength is the by-product. The strength we're really building is the kind that shows up when things get hard — in the ring and outside it.

DISCIPLINE

Turning up when you don't feel like it. Drilling the basics until they're automatic. Discipline is a muscle, and every class trains it.

FAMILY

Kids, parents, first-timers, fighters — everyone trains under the same roof and looks out for each other. Once you're in, you're family.

Home of authentic Nak Muay

THE THAI IN OUR MUAY THAI

Nak Muay (นักมวย) is Thai for a practitioner of Muay Thai. It isn't a rank and it isn't bought — it's what you become by turning up, training honestly and respecting the art. When our Instagram says “home of authentic Nak Muay”, that's the promise: we teach Muay Thai the way it's taught in Thailand, not a watered-down version of it.

In Thailand, a trainer isn't a coach — they're a Kru (ครู), a teacher. The tradition of Wai Kru — paying respect to your teachers and everyone who carried the art before you — is where our first value comes from. Respect isn't a poster on our wall. It's the oldest rule in the sport.

And the red, white and blue you see through this site? Straight from the Thai flag at the heart of our badge.
